چکیده
This paper aims at proposing robust methods to optimize nonlinear energy sinks (NES) used for the mitigation of friction-induced vibrations due mode coupling instabilities. The study is based on a mechanical system composed two NES coupled well-known two-degrees-of-freedom Hultèn’s model. Optimal Nonlinear Energy Sinks in Vibration Mitigation of the Beams Traversed by Successive Moving Loads
Optimal Nonlinear Energy Sink (NES) is employed in vibration suppression of the beams subjected to successive moving loads in this paper. As a real application, a typical railway bridge is dynamically modeled by a single-span beam and a traveling high-speed train is simulated by a series of successive moving loads. Genetic algorithm is employed as the optimization technique and optimal paramete...
متن کاملOptimization under Uncertainty of Nonlinear Energy Sinks
Nonlinear Energy Sinks (NES) are used to passively reduce the amplitude of vibrations. This reduction is made possible by introducing a nonlinearly stiffening behavior in the NES, which might lead to an irreversible transfer of energy between the main system (e.g., a building) and the NES. However, this irreversible transfer, and therefore the efficiency of the NES, is strongly dependent on the...
متن کاملEnergy Conservative Limit Cycle Oscillations
This paper shows how globally attractive limit cycle oscillations can be induced in a system with a nonlinear feedback element. Based on the same principle as the Van der Pol oscillator, the feedback behaves as a negative damping for low velocities but as an ordinary damper for high velocities. This nonlinear damper can be physically implemented with a continuous variable transmission and a spr...
متن کاملMode coupling instability mitigation in friction systems by means of nonlinear energy sinks: Numerical highlighting and local stability analysis
In this paper, we study a problem of passive control of friction-induced vibrations due to mode coupling instability in breaking systems. To achieve that, the well-known two degrees of freedom Hultèn’s model, which reproduces the typical dynamic behavior of friction systems, is coupled to two ungrounded Nonlinear Energy Sinks (NES). The NES involves an essential cubic restoring force and a line...
متن کاملRobust Nonlinear Regulation of Limit Cycle Oscillations in UAVs Using Synthetic Jet Actuators
In this paper, a synthetic jet actuators (SJA)-based nonlinear robust controller is developed, which is capable of completely suppressing limit cycle oscillations (LCO) in UAV systems with parametric uncertainty in the SJA dynamics and unmodeled external disturbances. Specifically, the control law compensates for uncertainty in an input gain matrix, which results from the unknown airflow dynami...
